Marlene R. Edwards

MARLENE R. EDWARDS, 67, of Weirton, WV passed away at the Weirton Medical Center following a brief illness on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. She was born on October 15, 1955, in East Liverpool, OH., one of four children born to Milton Brooks Searight and Virginia Weltner Searight Maki. Marlene was a Life-Time member of the Hookstown Grange, #1980, an organization that she held many positions within, most recently the distribution aspect for the Hookstown Fair. Throughout her many years of involvement, she and her family have watched the Fair evolve into a much-anticipated event, drawing thousands of people each summer. Marlene enjoyed traveling within and outside of the United States. While she traveled abroad, her most intriguing destination was China. During her visit, friends convinced her to stay for two years and instruct English and while doing so, she made many friends throughout her classes. She was a free-spirited lady, giving advice and her opinion to individuals without their consent. Everyone knew when Marlene made her commitment to the cause, she followed through. Her Maternal instincts carried throughout her life, her children expressed kind thoughts that she never stopped being a mother, she had always believed in her children. In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her son Todd Best, and brothers Joseph Bryson (USMC) and Stanley Ellis Searight. Left to cherish her memory with Love and Admiration are her son Bradd (Jennifer) Best, daughter Jessica Wilson, Sister Patricia Dailey, and her husband Thomas Smallwood all of Weirton, daughter-in-law Brenda Best of Decatur, AL., ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Marlene’s request for cremation has been honored. A memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of her family.
