Betty June Macre

BETTY JUNE MACRE, 94, of Weirton, WV passed away on December 18, 2022. Betty was born on April 29, 1928, in Toronto, OH, one of five children born to Charles A. and Alma Pauline Carman Elliott. On April 20, 1949, she married Anthony S. “Tony” Macre. In their 54 years of marriage, they were blessed with a son, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Betty worked for forty years as a secretary for the United Steelworkers Union Local 1190. Sadly, her husband, Tony, passed away on August 12, 2003, and her son, Tony, passed away unexpectedly on October 3, 2021. Betty and her husband were intimately involved in their parish of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and where she was well known for the toast she would make everyone each morning, a role she was very proud of. She was also a member of the Three Score Seniors. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards, especially if she had a winning hand. Betty loved to shop; she would shop for Christmas all year long. She was a great cook, baker, and a talented seamstress. Betty even handmade her daughter-in-law’s wedding gown. She loved to bake pies and was known for her apple pies with the delicious, one-of-a-kind crust. For her grandchildren, she would make her pancakes in their favorite shapes; a tradition that carries on today with her great grandchildren. Most of all, Betty will be remembered as a classic, American woman. Her style was impeccable as she dressed for success, and she always made sure to have her nails, make-up, and hair done, all while working at her job, raising a son, and taking care of the household. She truly cherished the times she had with her family, neighbors, and church family. In addition to her parents, her husband and her son, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Charles A. Elliott and her sister, Barbara DeStefano. She will be remembered with love by her daughter-in-law, Janet Macre, her grandchildren, Pamela Macre (Tim Gerald) and Anthony J. Macre (Ashley Macre); her great grandchildren, Andrew, Adrianna, and Ava; her brother, James Elliott, her sister, Jacqueline Rae Tate, and her church family and neighbors. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 10 a.m., at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Fr. Binu Sebastian will preside. Entombment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
