Richard Eugene Beatty Sr.

RICHARD EUGENE BEATTY, SR., 77, of Follansbee, WV died peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Weirton Medical Center with his family by his side. Rich was born on November 5, 1945, in Louise, WV a son of the late Charles D. and Anna (Young) Beatty, Sr. In addition to his parents Rich is preceded in death by one brother, Bill Beatty; and three sisters, Audrey McCrackin, Irene Campbell, and Margaret Pannett. Rich graduated from Follansbee High School Class of 1964. After high school Rich went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. Rich worked for 38 years and retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. After retiring, he worked many years for Follansbee Pharmacy delivering medicine to local folks in town. Rich was a member of the Hooverson Heights Church of Christ, Ohio Valley Mopar Club, The Cedar Lodge, Wellsburg Moose, and Masonic Lodge #2. He enjoyed spending his retired days having breakfast with the “Coke Plant breakfast club” at Eat N Park in Weirton and the Follansbee McDonalds Crew. He also enjoyed Thursday dinner nights with his wife and friends. In his spare time, you could find Rich watching the latest WWE wrestling matches on tv and spending time with his family at family gatherings. Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Wanda (Johnston) Beatty at home; two sons: Richard E. (Kathy) Beatty, Jr. and Brian (Autumn) Beatty both of Follansbee, WV; four grandchildren: Amber (Jason) Sizemore, Matt Beatty, Kayla (Dustin) Schoonmaker, and Blaine Beatty; five great grandchildren: Emma, Antonio, Lincoln, Easton, and Emmalyn; four brothers: Charles Beatty of Colliers, WV, Harry Beatty of Follansbee, WV, Robert Beatty of Leesburg FL, and Harold (Patty) Beatty of Colliers, WV; several nieces, among them, one who was near and dear to his heart Tammy Merritt of Colliers, WV; nephews; and cousins. Visitation for Rich was held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 and again on Friday, January 6, 2022 until the time of the funeral service, with Pastor Angel Adams officiating, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee. Entombment followed at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens. Full military honors were conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. Graveside Masonic Services were held by Wellsburg Masonic Lodge number 2 A.F. & A.M.
