Gary Wayne Mayhew

GARY WAYNE MAYHEW, 81, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at home with his daughter by his side. Gary was born on June 30, 1941, in Wellsburg, WV a son of the late Michael Mayhew and Nora Carey (Cavey) Mayhew. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Charlene Mayhew; his three brothers Paul, James, and Leroy Mayhew; a sister, Mami Mayhew, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked and retired from the US Postal Service and worked at Crescent Glass. Gary was a firm believer of his faith in God. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, and he enjoyed working on little projects and spending time with his family. In his later years Gary enjoyed learning how to use his smart phone and enjoyed Tik Tok. Gary is survived by his daughter, Michele (Chris) Knicely of Follansbee, WV; two grandchildren, Charlie Knicely of Follansbee, WV and Ashley (Hayley) Ianna-Knicely of Pittsburg, KS; one great granddaughter, Aria; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his furry companions Lucky and Missy. Visitation for Gary was held on Friday, January 20, 2023 and again on Saturday, January 21, 2023 until the time of funeral services, with Rev. Benjamin R. “Ben” Wright officiating. Interment followed at Kadesh Chapel Cemetery. Full Military Honors were conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
