The following is a list of books recently added to the Brooke County Public Library’s collection:
WITHOUT A TRACE by Danielle Steel. Charles Vincent seems to have it all–a beautiful wife, two successful children, and a well-paying career. Yet happiness remains out of reach. He is trapped in a loveless marriage and his job is simply a paycheck. But his life changes forever one night as he drives along the Normandy coast, heading to their lavish château for the weekend. In one terrifying moment, Charles falls asleep at the wheel and veers off the road, plunging thirty feet down the face of a rocky cliff. Miraculously, Charles survives. After gathering the courage to climb to safety, he starts to walk–bruised, bloody, and desperate for help. In the dark of night, he happens upon a cabin where he meets the kind and beautiful Aude Saint-Martin. They have an instant connection, and as she nurses him back to health, Charles begins to discover the passion he’s been missing for so many years. In the aftermath of the crash, Charles has a startling realization: He doesn’t have to go back. He could simply choose to disappear, to walk away from his old life. When his car is discovered, he’ll be presumed dead, washed away at sea. If he stays with Aude, he has a chance at a fuller, happier life that he didn’t know was possible. It all seems too good to resist. But Aude has secrets of her own, and before long their pasts catch up to them, threatening everything they have fought to build.
CHASING ROME by John Gray. Always blazing their own path, newly engaged couple Chase and Gavin decide to forego a typical American wedding, followed by a honeymoon in Italy. Instead, they’ll spend the month of December in Rome with a local Italian family, learning the customs and exploring every romantic adventure they can find.
On a trip to the famed Colosseum, Chase and Gavin meet an elderly artist who offers them four riddles that he promises will unlock the most romantic places in all of Italy. As the couple deciphers each clue, they are taken from the canals of Venice to the Bridge of Sighs over the Tiber, to a monastery on the Island of Elba — meeting others who are struggling with secrets, love, and loss. They encounter heart-pounding intrigue and old-world charm on the ancient streets of Rome, and discover that almost nothing is as it seems.
DEVIL’S DELIGHT by M. C. Beaton and R. W. Green. Agatha and her assistant, Toni, are driving to their friend Bill Wong’s long-awaited wedding, thinking of nothing more than what the beautiful bride will be wearing when a terrified young man comes running down the country lane towards them wearing…nothing at all. The encounter leads them to become embroiled with a naturist group, a disappearing corpse, fantasy games, witchcraft, an ice cream empire, intrigue and murder. In the meantime, Agatha’s hectic life swirls along at dizzying pace, her private detective agency as busy as ever and her private affairs in turmoil, with old loves to contend with and a new suitor on the scene. But when she begins to close in on a suspected murderer, she finds herself in deadly peril, as the sinister nature of the ice cream business leads her to a chilling conclusion…
WHILE I WAS OUT by Jerry Redfield. “A Peace Corps Volunteer arrives for his first assignment in a remote little pueblo high in the Ecuadorian Andes. On his first night there, the pueblo’s only policeman is shot and then transported down the mountain on a stretcher tied to the back of a donkey. So begins the narrative of Jerry Redfield as he shares this account of his joys and challenges as he engages in school construction and community development efforts in Ecuador in the early days of the Peace Corps (1963-1965.) Based on his own detailed journal and correspondence sent home, he tells the story of what attracted him to the Corps; his initial training; the people he met; and the many frustrations of dealing with a new culture, customs, modes of transportation and bureaucratic delays. Timely inserts in the book provide a chronology of major political and cultural events that occurred in the United States while he was out and their impact on him and the country upon his return.” — From Amazon.com.
