MERCIA “MERCY” LYNN EARNEST, 55, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Valley Hospice North in Steubenville, OH after a fierce battle with cancer with her family by her side. Born on July 26, 1967 in Steubenville, OH a daughter of the late Earnest Wheeler and Vivian (Eppinger) Wheeler of Wellsburg, WV. Mercy graduated from Brooke High School in 1984, then went on to Cosmetology School, and then received her R.N. from the Trinity School of Nursing. For over 18 years she worked as an E.M.T for the Brooke County Ambulance Service. After becoming a registered nurse she worked at U.P.M.C. Presbyterian on the trauma floor, Mercy Hospital trauma floor, and later for Trinity Medical Center I.C.U, then Weirton Medical Center emergency room, and finished her nursing career at Brightwood Center where taking care of the elderly was her passion. She was Christian by faith as well as a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife, always putting other peoples needs before her own. Mercy is survived by her loving husband of seven years, Merle Jay Earnest at home; six children: Kristen (Rob) Greenslate of Weirton, WV, Kayla Solomon of Wellsburg, WV, Stephen (Jen) Pulice of Wellsburg, Nikki Earnest, Gerrica Earnest, and Brittany Earnest; grandchildren: Emerson, Rowan, Sawyer, Elliana, Zoey, Laken, Abbey, Tyler, and Harper; two sisters: Linda (Web) Yost and Debbie (Larry) Palmer both of Wellsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mercy was held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 and again on Wednesday, March, 8, 2023 until the time of funeral services, at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, with Rev. Jason Cline officiating. Interment followed in St. John Haven of Rest Cemetery, Colliers, WV.
