Harold Eugene “Gene” Gosney, Jr.

HAROLD EUGENE “GENE” GOSNEY, JR., a longtime resident of Weirton, WV, passed away after a brief illness on March 20, 2023. Born on August 14, 1937, in Wheeling, WV. Gene attended Follansbee High School and graduated in 1955. After finishing high school, he began his career as a welder at Weirton Steel, where he would work for many years until his retirement. Gene met the love of his life, Norma Watkins, while she was working as a waitress at Jo-Jons during the summer months of her high school years. They married in 1961 and enjoyed a wonderful life together for over 57 years. They were blessed with two children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Gene had a love for WVU football and basketball, and he was a dedicated season ticket holder. He looked forward to tailgating and spending the day with friends in Morgantown for over 30 years. He also enjoyed, golfing, at area courses, bowling, at the Holiday Lanes, and shooting pool at the Weirton Senior Center. He was always willing to help others and often gave people rides to the grocery store and to church. But nothing compared to the times he cherished with his great- granddaughter, Alyssa. Gene was a member of Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member for many years. In addition to his parents, Pauline Simpson Krusham and Edward Krusham, Gene was sadly preceded in death by his son, Harold Eugene Gosney, II, in 1988, and his grandson, Georgie Anderson, in 1991, his wife, Norma in 2018. Gene is survived by his loving daughter, Debra Gosney, his grandchildren, Cathleen (James) Cox, Harold Eugene Gosney, III, Brandon Anderson and Bobbie Tredway; and his three great grandchildren, Blaine and Alyssa Anderson and Autumn Cox. Gene will be missed dearly by all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever. Visitation was held Friday, March 24, 2023, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, where funeral services were also conducted with Rev. Bill Stout presiding. He was laid to rest next to his wife Norma at Forks of Cheat Cemetery, Morgantown, WV on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com.
