John Mark Hamilton

JOHN MARK HAMILTON, 78, of Weirton, WV passed away on March 28, 2023, at Weirton Medical center. Surrounded by family. Born December 27, 1944, John was the middle child born to Edward and Eula Swearingen Hamilton. Sadly, John’s mother passed away when he was 11 and his dad passed away when he was 13. Pearl Cline helped with raising John. John grew up in New Cumberland, WV and graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1962. After graduating from high school, John served four years in active duty and two years of reserve duty with the United States Air Force from 1962-1968. On June 15, 1963, John married his high school sweetheart Sandy Tingler. In their 59 years of marriage, they were blessed with two children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Sandy took care of their home and John provided for t family by working 43 years in Weirton Steel and retiring from ArcelorMittal as a General Yardmaster. In his younger years, John was well known in the Tri-State Area as the lead singer with the Starlighters Band. He had a love for reading that carried with him his entire life. He also enjoyed writing, studying History and flying airplanes.He adored his sister Rosemarie Bowers and John had a special relationship with his cousin Kenny(Helen) Markle. He cherished the 2012 and 2013 season when he was the equipment manager for Weir High Red Rider Football. He looked forward to meeting his friends for coffee at Arby’s on Three Springs Drive. John nourished his faith at the Point Pleasant United Methodist Church. He also was a former member of the Oakland District Volunteer Fire Department, and the Commissioner of Clan Hamilton in West Virginia. John will be remembered with love by his wife, Sandra Hamilton, his son, Darrin (Janice) Hamilton; his daughter, Kathryn (Shannon Almason) Zapotoczny; his sister, Rosemarie Bowers; his beloved grandchildren who he loved nothing more, Andrew, Adam (Kayla), Aaron (Julia), Christa, Cortney (Jordan Hill), Brandon; his great grandchildren, Gracie, Carter, Madison and Ethan, and his cousin, Kenny (Helen) Markle. Visitation was held Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, where funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 with Pastor Aldo Pucci presiding. Interment followed at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Air Force and the American Legion Post 10 Honor Squad. Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com.
