Mary Ellen (Painter) Black

MARY ELLEN (PAINTER) BLACK, 74, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at her home with her family by her side and the assistance of Valley Hospice for peace and comfort. Mary Ellen was born on June 12, 1948 in Wheeling, WV. She was the daughter of the late Charles Painter and Mary Ellen (Sandreth) Painter. Mary Ellen retired after 26 year plus years working with the State of WV at the DHHR Office in Human Resources. Many will remember Mary Ellen for her love of cutting grass, working on puzzles, playing games on her phone and shooting pool; but most of all, caring for the garden especially her rose bushes and always taking beautiful photos of the sunsets. In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her two brothers, Chuck and Mike Painter. Mary Ellen is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 23 years, Joe Black; three children: Jeffrey Mitchell, Ronda McAdams and her husband, Terry, all of Wellsburg, WV and Lindy Jo Black Dunlap of Weirton, WV; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; three siblings: Theodore Painter of Wellsburg, WV, Carol Painter of Bloomingdale, OH and John Painter of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends were received on Saturday, April 15, 2023 until the time of the funeral service, at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee. Following the service, Mary Ellen was cremated and taken home to remain with her family forever. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the James Funeral Home, 1245 Main Street, Follansbee, WV 26037 to assist during this time of great loss.
