Richard T. Sherensky

RICHARD T. SHERENSKY, 79, a loving husband, beloved father, pappy, brother, and uncle passed away suddenly Friday, April 21, 2023, at Weirton Medical Center surrounded by loving family members. Rich was born December 30, 1943, in Steubenville, son of the late Henry and Frances Slatniske Sherensky . He graduated in 1961 from Weirton Madonna High School, served 4 years in the U S Air Force as an air policeman, 25 years as a City of Weirton police officer, retiring as a lieutenant. He also received his associate degree in criminal justice and served as Chief Deputy of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. A devoted Catholic, Rich was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Church where he served as a Minister of the Eucharist, altar server and president of the former Holy Name Society. He was also a past president of the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Knights of Columbus 3734, and Weirton Post 10 of the American Legion. He and the former Connie Fletcher were married November 5, 1966. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Connie, their daughter, Jannae (James Beeman); granddaughters, Sydney of California, and Adriana of Weirton; one brother, Edward (Agnes) Sherensky of Chambersburg, PA; one sister, Mickey (David) Kinney of Hendersonville, TN, brother-in-law, Ralph (Beki) Fletcher of Weirton; several nieces and nephew and great nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Monday, April 24, 2023, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. The Weirton Police Department paid their respects at 3 p.m. The Knights of Columbus recited the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Sacred Heart of Mary Church with Rev Fr Tony Thurston officiating, followed by interment with Military Honors at St Paul’s Cemetery.
