Lonnie V. Blake

LONNIE V. BLAKE, 82, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully at home on Friday, May 5, 2023, surrounded by his family who loved him and all the magnificent animals he has taken over the years from hunting all over the country. Born on October 7, 1940, in Wheeling, WV a son of the late Friend L. and Virginia (Crow) Blake. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Carrie Roberta “Bertie” Blake who died on May 2, 2020; five sisters: Lois White, Alice Hess, and Marjorie Gribben, Sonya (John) Pettini of Canton, OH, and Janet (Don) Teft of Marietta, OH; and one brother, John Charles (Diane) Blake of Troutville, WV. Lonnie graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1960 and served in the Marines. Later he retired from Weirton Steel Corporation where he worked on the number three galvanized line and then worked for Asplundh Tree as an arborist. Lonnie was a member of the Bethany Masonic Lodge #69 A.F.&A.M. A true woodsman Lonnie would hunt anytime and anyplace having hunted in many states throughout his life. His favorite place to hunt was right here in good ole West Virginia and his nickname was “Mountain Man”. He was Christian by faith and thanked the Lord for providing for he and his family. He leaves behind five children: Neal (Kathy) Williams of Maryville, IL, Cammie Blake of Knoxville, TN, Lisa (Anthony) Snider of Lost Creek, WV, and Lonnie (Jessica) Blake of Wellsburg, WV, Rodney (Tammy) Lancaster of Wellsburg, WV; six grandchildren: Alexis, Emilee, and Sierra Williams, Megan Carruba, Shayla and Wyatt Blake; three great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There was no visitation. A private family gathering was held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee.
