Grow Ohio Valley to Receive Funds

Grow Ohio Valley headquartered in Wheeling will receive $310,984 so 21 AmeriCorps members who will address dramatic diet-related health disparities by improving access to healthy, locally produced food in underserved, low-income communities in Brooke, Ohio and Marshall counties.
U. S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the National Service Congressional Caucus, announced that award as part of $8,165,865 allocated to support six West Virginia AmeriCorps programs.
The funding was made possible in part by the American Rescue Plan and will support at least 555 AmeriCorps volunteers based in Wheeling, Morgantown, Hillsboro, Charleston and Elkins.
“West Virginians have a long history of lending a hand to their neighbors in times of need. AmeriCorps programs continue to make incredible impacts on our state, and I am pleased these six programs are receiving awards today,” said Manchin.
“These critical initiatives will support West Virginians by increasing youth literacy, combatting the drug epidemic, expanding access to healthy, locally-grown produce and more.”
“As a proud supporter of AmeriCorps and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to support these programs across the Mountain State,” he added.
