Dolores Joyce (Gazda) Cieslak

DOLORES JOYCE (GAZDA) CIESLAK, 84. of Weirton, WV, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many passed away Monday, May 22, 2023, following an extended illness under the watchful eyes of Wyngate Senior Living Community. She was born in Chicopee, MA, on December 3, 1938, one of two children to Stanley Gadza and Mary Szumny Gazda Wierzbowski. Dolores graduated in 1956 from Chicopee High School. Immediately following her graduation, she accepted a position with the New England Telephone Company, where she worked her entire life, retiring from management. In her spare time, Dolores enjoyed bowling, assembling vesti-made rugs, listening to, and dancing to Polish music, and tending to her rose bushes. But everyone knew that Dolores’s time was well spent in her kitchen, baking chocolate cakes, her homemade bread, and of course her precise apple squares. Everyone knew them to be precise because not only were they squares, but Dolores also used a ruler she engaged only for baking. She would use various sizes of pans, sometimes she would use square pans but many times it was a cookie sheet; according to how many apple squares she was preparing that day. She would make sure every portion was perfect to size. In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her stepfather Stanley Wierzbowski. With much love and admiration, Dolores leaves behind her daughter Jeanne Amidon of Weirton, granddaughter Elizabeth Amidon, great-grandsons Jamison and Jaylen Reels all of Feeding Hills, MA, sister Charlotte (Gazda) Whidden, niece Lori Whidden both of Daytona Beach, FL, and many cousins. The Cieslak family would like to thank Wyngate Senior Living Community for taking such good care of Dolores; you were family to her. Additional thanks to Amedisys Hospice for making her last month’s comfortable. Dolores’s request for cremation has been honored. No services are planned currently.
