Nick G. “Tojo” Mraovich

NICK G. “TOJO” MRAOVICH, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend, passed away on Memorial Day, May 29, 2023. Born on March 31, 1933, in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, he was one of eleven children born to George and Vera Hergovich Mraovich. On December 5, 1953, Nick married the love of his life, Irene Kunzel. Their marriage was a testament to the power of enduring love, and together they shared a journey of happiness and devotion for over five decades. Sadly, Irene passed away on August 3, 2010, leaving behind a legacy of love that Nick carried in his heart. During the Korean War, Nick proudly served his country, with the United States Army from 1953 t0 1955. After his military service, he dedicated forty years of his life to Weirton Steel, where he worked as a skilled crane operator. Nick and Irene were blessed with two sons and two daughters, who brought immense joy and purpose to their lives. As a father, Nick was a pillar of strength, offering guidance, support, and unconditional love to his children. He instilled in them the values of honesty, integrity, and hard work, setting an example that will forever shape their lives. Being a grandfather was a role that Nick cherished above all else. He adored his eight granddaughters, one grandson, and four great-grandchildren, and their presence brought immense happiness and laughter into his life. In his leisure time, Nick enjoyed tinkering around his home, fixing things, and taking pride in his handiwork. He had a passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers, watching them play on Sunday’s. He also found joy in watching cowboy movies on TV. In addition to his parents and his wife, Nick was preceded in death by his brothers, Mike, Rudy, Peter Sam and George Mraovich; and his sisters, Anna Mraovich, Betty Baer, and Sophia Campbell. Nick is survived by his children, Nicholas Mraovich, Kathleen (William) Allison, Gloria (Hartzell “John”) Lancaster, Jeffrey (Rhonda) Mraovich; brothers, Eli and Robert Mraovich; grandchildren, Emily (Lee) Abrahams, Juliana Mraovich, Mary Beth Mraovich, Nathan Mraovich, Sierra and Bri Allison, Ashleigh (Aaron) Gurskey Amber (Jacob) Fischer, and Angel Lancaster; great-grandchildren, Jordin and Jaxson Gurskey, Nora Irene and Jade Abrahams. Visitation was held until the time of funeral services Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, with Pastor James Rhodes presiding. Interment followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 10 and the WV National Guard. Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com.
