Second Annual Duck Derby Set

Wellsburg Lions Club will stage its second annual Duck Derby Sunday, June 11, at the 6th Street Wharf in Wellsburg.
In addition to the duck derby, the club has added a Derby Hat Decorating Contest, car show and food trucks to the event.
Participants can adopt a duck for $10 to be entered into the Duck Derby.
The ducks will be dropped into the Ohio River at 6 p.m. for a race to the finish line where the first five ducks plucked from the water will win cash or prizes.
The Derby Hat contest is set for 5 p.m. with hats being paraded through the car cruise-in. Three winners will take home prizes for the largest hat, the most unique hat and the best duck-themed hat.
Food vendors will be open from 3-7 p.m. with a varied fare.
The cruise-in from 3-7 p.m. will include antique cars, classic cars, muscle cars and street rods.
There is no cost to participate in the cruise-in, and owners are asked to arrive with their cars from 1:30-2:45 p.m.
The street will be closed at 2:50 p.m. for safety and remain closed until 7 p.m.
Participants will receive a plastic duck for their dash with a custom card to display their name, resident town and car details.
The club’s primary focus is the children of the community. Last year’s derby provided funding for a park to be built for the city of Wellsburg’s First Ward.
Through the years the club has done countless projects from shelters in Wellsburg, Follansbee and Brooke Hills Park, events for children from community activities to participation in the 4th of July Parade and numerous other events.
