David and Carolyn Velegol celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 5, 2023. They were married on June 5, 1963 at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Clarksburg, WV. The Reverend John Duda officiated.
Carolyn is the daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Smrek) Kopson. She was a superb homemaker after her brief career with the C & P Telephone Company.
David is the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Tokas) Velegol. His career was focused on energy as a mechanical engineer both with General Electric’s Flight Propulsion Division in Cincinnati and the Weirton Steel Corporation.
The couple have four children: David, Jr. (Lisa) of Follansbee; Sonja McCreary (Bryan) of Pittsburgh, PA; Douglas (Darla) of Weirton; and Darrell (Stephanie) of State College, PA. They also have nine grandchildren and a great-grandson on the way.
Their celebration included a Mass at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Follansbee; a Mass at the Immaculate Conceptions Church in Clarksburg, WV; a visit to their honeymoon site at Carter Caves Resort Park in Olive Hill, KY; a visit to Cincinnati, OH; and a dinner, hosted by their children, with family and friends to wrap it up. The couple resides in Colliers, WV and Winter Haven, FL.
