WAYNE C. ELLIS, 83, of Weirton, WV, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital, Weirton. He was born February 23, 1940 in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Charles M. and Ruth Blattner Ellis. He is also preceded in death by brothers, William Ellis and James Ellis; and stepmother, Sara Howard. Wayne is a US Marine Corps Veteran who enjoyed being in the service for 4 years with 2 of those years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence. Wayne worked in the Blooming Mill and BOP of Weirton Steel. He enjoyed boating, fishing, riding his bike and many other outside activities. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, including his big Labor Day parties which lasted the entire weekend. Wayne was a member and former officer of American Legion Post No. 10 where he and his family would join every Saturday. What began as 6-person table grew into more than 40 people and what would be infamously known as “that table” where he will be truly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth Elizabeth Garland Ellis; sons, Charles “Chuck” Ellis (Darlene), David Ellis, Richard Ellis (Linda), and Wayne Ellis, Jr. (Penny); grandchildren, Nina Dlugopolski (Chad), Zachary Ellis (Izzy Murray), Holly Ellis, Ashley Randolph (Forrest Porter), and Nathan Gomola; great-grandchildren, Paizley, Lilly, Zachary, Braxton and Malia; sister, Mary Ann Wilson; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Rudy. Visitation was held Monday, June 12, 2023, at Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Weirton, where the funeral took place Tuesday, June 13, 2023, with Pastor James Rhodes presiding. Interment followed at St. Paul Cemetery where military honors were rendered by USMC and American Legion Post No. 10 Honor Guards. Condolences may be left at www.steelandwolfe.com.
