JOHN CHARLES “J.C.” “BUG BUG” SPERLAZZA, 72, of Follansbee, WV died peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Valley Hospice Care North in Steubenville, OH with his family at his side. Born on January 10, 1951, in Weirton, WV a son of the late Raymond Alphonse and Ann Louise (Goddard) Sperlazza. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death most recently by his dear niece Isabella Jones on May 23, 2023, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Angelo and Betty Lou Ciccolella, along with his brother-in-law, Robert Ciccolella. J.C. graduated from Follansbee High School in 1968 and went on to graduate from West Liberty University with his bachelor’s degree in business. He retired after 52 years from Anthony Mining where he worked as a heavy equipment operator and superintendent. J.C. was a born again Christian and a proud member of Impact Church in Steubenville, OH. Family was J.C.’s life and he and Gaynel made the most of their time with all their family never missing a chance to be close and do things together always. Surviving J.C. are his devoted wife of 51 years, Gaynel “Meme” (Ciccolella) Sperlazza; his two loving children, Nicole and Nick Croce and Jason Sperlazza both of Follansbee, WV; two granddaughters whom he adored with his entire heart, Nikayla and Nikena Croce; his only sister, Lori (Dave) Lyle of Follansbee, WV; six brothers-in-law, Bernie, Angelo, Libby (Candy), Jerry (Rhonda), Jay and fiancé, Viktoria, Brian (Jacque), and Barry (Deidra) Ciccolella; two sisters-in-law, Mary Frances (Jay) Schwertfeger, and Camille (Nathan) Jones; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and all of his Sperlazza cousins, along with his dear friends, Denver and Jill Ray, Sil and Josie Merenda, Pam and Jeff Cox, Kathy and Jeff Younciak, and Eleanor Rodinsky who continued to pray for him during his illness. Visitation for J.C. was held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 until the time of funeral services, at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, with Pastors Kendon Alexander and Pastor Dave Shores officiating. Inurnment was held privately.
