GFWC West Virginia held its 50th annual summer conference Aug. 4-5 at Canaan Valley Resort to review the past year and celebrate a new club year.
GFWC WV President Cathy Jo Bryant, of Fayetteville, WV and 120 registered club women from across the state enjoyed a variety of workshops and program updates. President Bryant also announced the state’s successes at GFWC Convention in Louisville, KY held in June. The state ladies competed against ladies from across the nation in a division that included California, Texas, Virginia and New Jersey, amongst many others.
The West Virginia clubwomen brought home top honors in Division 1 in Arts and Culture, Civic Engagement and Outreach, and Newsletter Contest and also received recognition for their work with St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Two Juniorette Clubs were recognized – GFWC Bridgeport Juniorettes Club and GFWC Juniorettes of Omar.
Hamlin’s Tina Lambert brought home honorable mention in the member’s poetry contest.
On the final evening, ladies representing the GFWC WV Districts competed for the titel of “GFWC WV Fair Queen.” Gabby Thomas, a member of the Pea Ridge Woman’s Club won the honor. The ladies were judged on the answer to a question and talent. Following the pageant, the ladies enjoyed the GFWC WV Fair.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is a unifying force, bringing together local women’s clubs, with members dedicated to strengthening their communities and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
