STEVEN FRANKLIN POWELL, 71, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at home with his family by his side. Born on November 4, 1951, in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Carl and Dolores (Brown) Powell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Barbara (Leavitt) Lazear, and 2 sons, Steven F. Powell, Jr. in 1973 and Brett T. Powell in 2003, and a great granddaughter, Arya Grace McGee. Steven graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1969. He served his country during Vietnam in the Navy as a Sea Bee. Steven retired from Weirton Steel Corporation where he worked as a construction pipe fitter. Steven was Christian by faith. His favorite past-time was following the Brooke Bruins, the West Virginia Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steeler, and Pittsburgh Penguins. He loved to hunt and fish as well when he was able. Steven was a life member of the Wellsburg American Legion Post 34 and the Wellsburg Moose Lodge #1564. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Susan (Lazear) Powell; three children: Tonya Wolfe and companion, Michael Brancheck of Bloomingdale OH, Kristopher (Danielle) Powell of Ripley, WV, and Steven T. Powell of Wellsburg, WV; two sisters: Vickey (John) Gallagher of Follansbee, WV, and Sandy Rauschenberg of Weirton, WV; one brother, Rodney (Kathy) Powell of Follansbee; 10 grandchildren: Ashlee McGee and companion Dillon Mizak whom he raised as a daughter, Rick (Amanda) Underwood, Brittany Wolfe, Kyla Powell, Asher Powell, Chloe Powell, Eli Powell, Sarah Powell, Abigale Powell, and Hannah Powell; three great grandchildren: Isabella, Logan, and Elle Mae; three sisters-in-law: Cyndi (Gene) Kisner, Kelly (John) Busack, and Diane (Marty) Damms; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. There was no visitation. A memorial service is being planned for the near future. Arrangements by the Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee.
