Helen Ferda Gorby

HELEN FERDA GORBY, 88, of Saint Marys, OH and formerly of Beavercreek, OH, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community. Helen was born July 23, 1935, in Wellsburg, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Blas) Ferda. Helen was a graduate of Wellsburg High School. She was a homemaker and also the office manager for Gorby’s Transmission in Dayton, Ohio. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Dayton. She was an excellent bowler and a master of contract bridge; she was a very shrewd investor and she dearly loved her sons and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her nine siblings: Anna Ferda, Mike Ferda, Mary Evanko, Margaret Ferda, Pauline Triplett, George Ferda, John Ferda, Emma Ferda Bullock and Wilma Levine; and a longtime special friend, Don Hohne. Helen is survived by her two sons, Dwain Gorby of New Carlisle and Ronald Gorby of Saint Marys, OH; five grandchildren: Ryan (Madison) Gorby, Aaron (Alexa) Gorby, Tyler Gorby, Matt Gorby, and Lindsay (David) Vallo; two great-grandchildren, Griffin and Piper Gorby; step-grandson, Michael (Appollo) Schloss of Milton, Florida; two sisters, Sue Hanlin of Huntington, WV and Jane Konisky of Winterville, OH; and step-great grandchildren Shiloh, Hosea, Aggie and Salem. Friends were invited to call Monday, October 30, 2023, at the Miller Funeral Home, Saint Marys, OH. Family and friends were received locally on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 until the time of Liturgy of the Word, at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, with Father Justin Golna presiding.
