John Puskarich, Jr.

JOHN PUSKARICH, JR., 76, of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at his residence under the care of his family with the assistance of Valley Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born on May 5, 1947 in Steubenville, OH. He was the son of the late John and Mary (Evans) Puskarich. John served his country proudly in the United States Army with the 3rd Armored Division where he graduated from Sergeant Academy. Upon returning home, John worked 30 years at Weirton Steel and 14 years at MP Air until his retirement. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Follansbee, WV. Many will remember John for his love of football being the Coach of the Follansbee Bluewaves for 37 years and the Brooke High School Bruins for four years and was a Coach at the Weirton Baseball Association for 12 years. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his two siblings, Shelley Brown and Richard Puskarich and brother-in-law, Donald Dillon. John is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 55 years, Cathy (Carlisle) Puskarich; three children: Brian Puskarich and his wife, Lisa, Bruce Puskarich and his wife, Mindy and Kimberly Jeffries and her husband, Art; four grandchildren: Dalton, Harlan, Gage and Olivia; two siblings, Ronald Puskarich and his wife, Linda and Roxane Dillon of Florida; a sister-in-law, Deborah Puskarich; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends were received on Monday, November 13, 2023, with vigil service following, at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, where the funeral commenced on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. A Catholic Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday as well, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Follansbee, with Father Jude Perera presiding. Interment followed at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, with Military Honors by the WV Army National Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1017 Jefferson Street, Follansbee, WV 26037.
