Angela Guglielmo

ANGELA GUGLIELMO, 97, of Weirton, WV passed away peacefully on Monday November 13, 2023. Born on March 15, 1926, in Belmonte Calabria, Italy, Angela was one of three daughters born to Francesco and Teresa Suriano Ianni. At the tender age of 11, Angela embarked on a journey to America alongside her mother and sister Alba to reunite with her father, Francesco, who had already established a life in the United States. This courageous move marked the beginning of a life filled with love, family, and dedication. On January 6, 1945, Angela exchanged vows with Osvaldo S. Guglielmo, an Air Force veteran of World War II. Their marriage stood the test of time, spanning an incredible 62 years until Osvaldo’s passing on January 23, 2007. Together, they navigated life’s journey, with Osvaldo and his brothers founding New City Auto Sales in Weirton, while Angela devoted herself to creating a warm and loving home. The couple was blessed with a son, five daughters, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, forming a tight-knit and loving family. Despite the challenges that life presented, Angela’s strength and unwavering commitment to her family remained a constant. Sadly, Angela was preceded in death by her cherished daughters, Kathleen in 2011 and Elaine in 2021, as well as her sister Carmela Latkiewicz in 2013. Angela’s legacy extends beyond her roles as a devoted wife and mother. She was a phenomenal cook, delighting family and friends with her culinary talents. Her love for travel took her to beautiful beaches and, most importantly, back to her cherished hometown in Italy. Angela’s ties to her Italian heritage remained strong throughout her life. Angela was a member of the Christian Mothers and a parishioner at the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church in Weirton. She will be remembered with love by her son, David (Julie) Guglielmo; her daughters, Linda (August) Phillips, Anita (Michael) Capito, and Joyce (Alan) Guglielmo Smith; her 7 grandchildren, James (Kari) DeGori, Karen Phillips, Stephanie (Eugene) Villafana, Debra Lee DeGori, Michael (Stephanie) Capito, Lia Capito and Sofia Smith; her 7 great grandchildren, Olivia and Ryan DeGori, Gianna, Alessia, and Maia Villafana, Sienna Barker and Michael Asher Capito; her sister, Alba Buksa; her son in law, George Patrick, and her caregivers, Sandi Schriener, Lacie Salerno, Shirley Schulte, Rosa Pulice, Edie Wilson, and Ada Pulice. Visitation was held at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, with Monsignor Joseph Peterson presiding. Entombment followed at Saint Paul’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
