William “Bill” Columbo

WILLIAM “BILL” COLUMBO, 93, of Colliers, WV died peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Weirton Medical Center. Born on December 14, 1929, in Follansbee, WV, son of the late William W. and Violet (Porter) Columbo. In addition to his parents, Bill in preceded in death by his teenage sweetheart and loving wife, Shirley Mae (Mayhew) Columbo. Bill graduated from Follansbee High School in 1947 and from West Liberty State College in 1960 with a bachelor’s in biology along with his teaching certificate. After college Bill served his country in the Army during peacetime. He taught biology at Steubenville High School from 1960-1995. Bill and Shirley were members of the Colliers United Methodist Church. He held memberships in the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, the O.E.A.-Ohio Education Association, and the NEA-National Education Association. He is survived by his son, Brian Columbo of Ashburn, VA; a grandson, Cody Columbo; and several special nieces and nephews, whom he and Shirley were very close to. There was no visitation. A private burial was held at St. John Haven of Rest, Colliers, where Bill and Shirley’s cremains were buried together. Condolences may be sent to www.mullenbachfh.com.
