CHARLES “DOC” LOPEZ, 105, of Weston, FL, formerly of Follansbee, WV, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at his residence under the care of his son and his wife, Rebecca with the assistance of Vitas Hospice. Doc was born on May 6, 1918 in DePue, Illinois. He was the son of the late Jose Burguet Lopez and Carmen (Menendez) Lopez. Doc served proudly in the United States 20th Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He received the American Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He retired after 35 years of service to Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. Many will remember Doc for his love of coin collecting. In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by his wife, Aurora (Nuevo) Lopez; two brothers, Joseph and Julius Lopez; and four sisters: Rose Meyer, Anita Gonzalez, Connie Lopez and Hope Rodriguez. Doc is survived by his son, Charles Gary Lopez and his wife, Rebecca; two grandchildren, Whitney Kellie Lopez and Charles Tyler Lopez; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends were received Thursday, November 30, 2023 and again on Friday, December 1, 2023 until the time of the funeral service, at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee. Interment followed at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, with Military Honors by the WV Army National Guard and the Ohio Valley Veteran Memorial Squad.
