ADULT FICTION

HOT POT MURDER by Jennifer J. Chow. “Food stall owners Yale and Celine Yee have scored an invitation to join an exclusive dinner with the local restaurant owners association. The members gather together for a relaxing hot pot feast . . . until Jeffery Vue, president of the group, receives a literal shock to his system and dies. Everyone at the meal is a suspect, but the authorities are homing in on family friend Ai Ho, owner of the restaurant where Jeffery was killed — and Yale’s dad is a close second on their list. Yale and Celine step up to the plate and investigate the dinner attendees: the association’s ambitious VP, a familiar frenemy, a ramen king, a snacks shopkeeper, and a second-generation restaurateur. It’s up to the detecting duo to figure out what really happened before their friends and family have to close their businesses for good.”– Provided by publisher.
FAMOUS IN A SMALL TOWN by Viola Shipman. For most of her eighty years, Mary Jackson has endured the steady invasion of tourists, influencers and real estate developers who have discovered the lakeside charm of Good Hart, Michigan, waiting patiently for the arrival of a stranger she’s believed since childhood would one day carry on her legacy — the Very Cherry General Store. Like generations of Jackson women before her, Cherry Mary, as she’s known locally, runs the community hub — part post office, bakery and sandwich shop — and had almost given up hope that the mysterious prediction she’d been told as a girl would come true and the store would have to pass to . . . a man.
THE CAFÉ AT BEACH END by RaeAnne Thayne. “When Meredith Collins was a child, the little beach town of Cape Sanctuary lived up to its name. Spending summers there with her grandmother, Meredith finally felt safe and loved. Now she’s returning in disgrace. Her late ex-husband swindled investors out of millions of dollars and made Meredith a figure of scorn — though she knew nothing about his scheme. But she still has the beach cottage she inherited from her grandmother and half ownership of the local cafe. It’s a place to work and earn a little money. That’s if her cousin, Tori, will let her through the door. Once, Tori and Meredith were as close as sisters — until Meredith chose her neglectful parents’ expectations over their bond. Now widowed with a teenage daughter, Tori isn’t setting out a welcome mat for the woman who let her down so badly. While Meredith tries to make a fresh start, she is drawn to a mysterious writer renting the cottage next door. Liam Byrne’s kindness is a balm, though she worries he might not be so friendly if he knew who she was. But Liam has his own secret and a mission that will help Meredith confront her past — and maybe, claim a surprising future . . .”– Provided by publisher.

THE DOOR OF NO RETURN by Kwame Alexander. 11-year-old Kofi Offin dreams of water. Its mysterious, immersive quality. The rich, earthy scent of the current. The clearness, its urgent whisper that beckons with promises and secrets…Kofi has heard the call on the banks of Upper Kwanta, in the village where he lives. What happens next will send him on a harrowing journey across land and sea, and away from everything he loves.
