Helen J. Tate

HELEN J. TATE, 86, of Weirton, WV, passed Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Weirton Medical Center. She was born December 14, 1936 in Weirton, daughter of the late Grace Amos States. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald Lee Tate (2015). Helen worked for years as an administrator in the finance office of Hancock County School Board. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church (board treasurer, secretary, finance committee, pastor parish relations, ministry committee, trustee committee and labyrinth team), member and past president of Hancock Co. Retired Teachers, Church Women United (where she received the Valiant Woman Award in 2012), United Methodist Women (past council member, treasurer, secretary, vice-president and president), Hancock Co. Senior Board, Church Choir, Weirton Chapter No. 147 OES, past president of Weirton Chapter Jr. A.R.E.M.A. Club, Point Pleasant Aide, Daughter of the Nile, Wardah Husam Temple No. 53, and 2012 Shiners’ International Lady. Helen was known as “Nan” to her grandchildren and many others, and will be deeply missed. Helen is survived by her loving daughters, Sheila Allen (Louis) and Ronna Tate (David Brenneman), both of Weirton, WV; grandchildren, Ron Allen (Ashley), Jordan Allen and Lexey Burns (Blake); great-grandchildren, Colt Allen, Cooper Allen, Taytum Burns and step-great-grandchild, Jaxton Burns; sister, Mary Barrett; brother-in-law, Sammie Tate; sister-in-law, Judy Tate, many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Friday, December 15, 2023, at Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home, Weirton, where the service was held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, with Pastor Carol McKay presiding. Entombment followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
