Judy Louise (Waggoner) Myers

JUDY LOUISE (WAGGONER) MYERS, 73, a lifelong resident of Weirton, WV, passed away far too soon on December 16, 2023. She was born on November 8, 1950, the youngest of two children born to David and Eva Jane (Davidson) Waggoner. She was raised on Kings Creek and spent a lot of time as a child playing in the area. Judy graduated at seventeen from Weir High School in the Class of 1968, and on September 21, 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, David L. Myers. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Christina (Christy) and Juliana (Julie). Together, they raised their daughters and provided them with a wonderful, loving childhood. Both hard workers, Judy often worked a second job to ensure that Christy and Julie could do many extracurricular activities, while David often worked doubles in the mill. Although Judy and David parted ways after 31 years of marriage, their shared journey left a lasting legacy of love and family. A woman of kindness, caring, and class, Judy dedicated almost five decades of her life to the service of others at Weirton Medical Center. Starting in the radiology dept, she later transitioned to Medical Records and was a transcriptionist for many years. After her divorce, Judy decided to pursue a dream of hers and embarked on a new chapter, going back to school (while still working) to become an LPN. She continued her work as an LPN at Weirton Medical Center until her retirement in 2015. Her commitment to the well-being of others defined her life. Judy loved to travel and enjoyed visiting her daughter Christy when she became a traveling RN. Judy would fly to see her, going all over the country to spend time with her daughter. At times, Julie also joined and the three of them made wonderful memories together in California, Arizona, etc. She also made many visits to Morgantown (and later Holly Springs, NC) to see her daughter Julie and son-in-law Adam, and later her grandson Bowen. She was an incredibly dedicated mother, who always prioritized her children and she could be counted on to love and support them at all times. In 2001, Judy found love again when she met Mike Volosin. They shared over 20 years of joy and companionship until Mike’s passing in May of 2022. Sadly, Judy faced numerous losses throughout her life; she lost her mother at the tender age of 16 years old, and the untimely passing of her daughter Christy in 2016 due to complications from surgery. In the last three years, Judy dealt with the loss of her older brother John Waggoner, her longtime boyfriend Mike, her childhood friend Paula, dear friend Noreen and her ex-husband David. Despite these profound losses, Judy’s strength in her faith and love for her daughter Julie, son in law Adam and grandson Bowen, carried her through the toughest of times, including with her battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma/Leukemia. Judy had a unique ability for friendship. Throughout her life, she had childhood and young adult friendships that lasted 50 and 60 years, which is a testament to her kindness, caring and loyalty. An active member of the First Nazarene Church in Weirton, Judy found solace and community as part of the J.O.Y. Club, “Just Older Youths.” She enjoyed helping in the church nursery, attending Sunday School classes and donating items to rummage sales. She gave of her time and cared deeply for others, often visiting those from the church who were in the hospital or ill. She dedicated her time to volunteering at the Breadbasket in Weirton, embodying her spirit of generosity and compassion. In her moments of leisure, Judy cherished spending time with her daughters and her grandson Bowen. She found joy in traveling on vacations with Mike “Dedo” Volosin, friends and family creating lasting memories that will be treasured by those who knew and loved her. Judy’s legacy of caring, resilience, and love will be remembered by her daughter, Juliana (Myers) Riley and her husband Adam and their son Bowen Samuel Riley; her sisters and brothers in Law, Diana and Paul Cunningham, Rick and Dee Myers; dear friends, Jim and Linda Karas, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends who were like family and all that had the privilege of knowing Judy. Visitation was held Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Additional visitation was held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 until the time of the funeral service, at the Weirton First Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Bennett Briles presiding. Judy was laid to rest next to her daughter Christy at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
