DENZIL HARVEY LEONARD CONLEY, 79, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at his home. He was born on January 20, 1944, in Wellsburg, WV, a son of the late Denzil Orval Conley, Sr. and Wanda (Lancaster) Conley. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Anna Dowden, and two brothers-in-law, Bob Dowden and Dick Davis. Denzil graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1963 and was a Christian by faith. He always took care of the needs of his family and siblings. Denzil, being a great father, husband, and friend, he had a good heart and would lend a hand to anyone who asked. Among other things in life, he was a farmer, mechanic, and inventor. He, alone, maintained the shared Whitetail Ridge road for over 26 years by hauling and spreading rock. Furthermore, this summer, he had 100 tons of blacktop millings put on the road to improve it even more. He always took it upon himself to make sure things worked to the best of his ability. He is greatly loved, and is terribly missed. He was employed at Weirton Steel Tin Mill for 33 years as a crane operator and later as an electrical foreman in the electric shop. Other jobs included the L&M gas station, Monongahela Power, Mazzella Welding & Fabricating, and Arvin Roll Coaters. Denzil was self-employed for 15 years with his own trucking business and he made it his utmost priority to treat everyone fairly. He retired in October 2020. After retirement he enjoyed farming, vacations to Florida, and time with his family. He was a board member of the Kadesh Chapel Cemetery and Treasurer for over 40 years; furthermore, he helped with opening and closing of graves and numerous other tasks that needed to be done. He always made sure the cemetery was in proper order. He was a member of the Weirton Steel Tin Mill 25 year club. Denzil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou (Dowden) Conley; one son, Terry (Wendy) Conley of Dover, PA; two daughters, Pamela (Fred) Cawthorn of Mt. Holly, NC, and Donna Conley and friend, Brad Polk, Jay, FL; five grandchildren: Kyle (Lauren) Conley of York, PA, Cody Conley of Manchester, PA, Ashley Conley and friend, Ashton Dickerson of Carlisle, PA, and Kayla and Freddy Cawthorn of Mt. Holly, NC; three great grandsons: Wesley, Tanner and Levi Conley; eight brothers and sisters: Carl (Coco) Conley of Montpelier, VT, Nelda (Jay) Cline of St. Clairsville, OH, Charles (Linda) Conley, Edward (Nancy) Conley and Rick (Debbie) Conley, Ilene Davis, Erma (Hubert) Headen and Darlene (Bruce) Henthorn; one sister-in-law, Virgina Gundrum, all of Wellsburg, WV; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation for Denzil was held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 and again on Friday, December 29, 2023 until the time of the funeral service, with Pastor Jim Seabright officiating, at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee.
