MARK (HOSS) COWDEN of Weirton, WV passed away in the presence of God and his family on Monday, January 1, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital after a long, hard-fought battle with long-term side effects of Covid-19. Hoss was born in Steubenville, Ohio on January 25, 1965 to loving parents, Mr. Robert S. Cowden Sr. and Mrs. Patricia A. Cowden. Hoss was a 1983 graduate of Weir High School and proceeded on to West Liberty State College followed by the West Virginia State Police Academy in 1989. Hoss was a much-respected officer of the law for 27 years in which his dedication and courage were apparent to so many. Hoss was a lover of many things: his family, his dogs, running, lifting weights, hunting and fishing, riding his motorcycle, karaoke, country music, western movies, sports, gardening, and most of all, The Lord. Hoss was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church where his love for Our Lord and Savior shined so brightly. Hoss has had such a deep, loving impact on so many. Hoss’s humor was unmatched. He could make anyone smile and loved to tell jokes to anyone who’d listen. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert S. Cowden Sr. Hoss is survived by his wife, Christal Cowden; his daughters, Elise [Ryan] Fullerton and Liz [Donald] Welch; his mother, Patricia A. Cowden; his brothers Robert Cowden Jr. and David Cowden; his brothers and sisters in law, his aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and his beloved pooch, Clancy. Family, friends, and those who have been touched by Hoss’s kind heart were invited to Open Door Baptist Church, Colliers, on Monday, January 8, 2024, to reminisce on all the many Hoss stories, grieve, and support one another amid such a loss. Open Door Baptist Church hosted the funeral on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, immediately followed by a luncheon.
