Shirley Ann Gaudreau

SHIRLEY ANN GAUDREAU, 91, of Weirton, WV, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away in the early hours of December 29, 2023. Born December 9, 1932 in Weirton, WV, Shirley “Nana,” was one of five daughters born to Steve and Mildred Solomon. Shirley’s journey through life was marked by an unyielding servant’s heart. Her tough exterior concealed a deep well of compassion and selfless care for family and friends who suffered in the pains of life. She is remembered for her love and generosity, often opening her heart and home to the struggling and less fortunate. Early in life she was prompted to live and work with family in Luverne, Minnesota. It was there that she would meet the local Army National Guard commander Chilson P Gaudreau, and so it was that on August 21, 1954, they would embark on a journey of love that blessed them with four children, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Chuck “C.P” Gaudreau, an Army Major and veteran of WWII, played a significant role in Shirley’s life. Together they co-owned the Auto Glass Center, with Shirley juggling household responsibilities while working for a medical office and providing income tax services. Shirley was known to family as Nana, and also known as “the bull” among friends and family. She knew what she wanted with regard to her family and her determination was unwavering, even through Breast Cancer and years of Trigeminal Neuralgia. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sisters Martha “Marcy” Hinchee, Millicent “Mimi” Gerbo, and Rosemarie “Rosie” Bosworth. She will be remembered with love and respect by her daughter Linda Payne (David), her three sons, Steve “Tiger” Gaudreau (Renee), Chuck Gaudreau Dan Gaudreau (Robyn), her seven grandchildren Leslie Malkovich, Chelsy Gevas (Jonathan), Zak Gaudreau (Rayanne), Jake and Keri Gaudreau, Austin and Raegan Gaudreau; her nine great-grandchildren Elijah, Riane, Noah, Damien, Avril, Elle, CeCe, Izzy, and Leoni and her sister Roberta “Bozie” Kazienko. Family and friends gathered to celebrate Shirley’s life at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton on Wednesday January 3, 2024. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 4, 2024. A gathering of family and friends took place at Mario’s Restaurant afterward. Shirley was laid to rest next to her husband at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
