JOYCE ANN (HOMONO) MOORE, 69, of Follansbee, WV passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Sam Swope Care Center at Masonic Homes, Louisville, KY after an aggressive battle with primary brain cancer (glioblastoma). She fought courageously against this hostile and unrelenting disease since August 2021, where her steadfast strength and bravery allowed her to live meaningfully with the disease for much of this time. Joyce Ann was born on June 9th, 1954, in Steubenville, OH. She is the daughter of Rose Marie (Egyed) Homono of Follansbee, and the late Alexander Homono. She met and fell in love with William Douglas Moore, and they married on September 8, 1973. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. To anyone who knew them, they were the picture of a perfect couple and did everything together. Joyce Ann is a 1972 graduate of Brooke High School. She was a loyal employee of Weirton Steel for over 30 years, and most recently for Highmark Inc. Joyce Ann was an active member of the Hooverson Heights Church of Christ. Joyce Ann is known to her family as the matriarch- a devoted wife, mother, and mammaw. She was vehement with her love and lived for her children and grandchildren. Many will remember her for her dedication as a dance mom, where she became a household name due to her stellar organization and ingenuity. She had a knack for finances and was well known for her keen budgeting skills. She cared deeply for others, and she was one that others called on for advice. Joyce Ann led by example and her passion could be felt in all that she did. In addition to her father, Joyce Ann is preceded in death by her beloved spouse, William Douglas Moore. In addition to her mother, Joyce Ann is survived by her four children: Michele Lynn-Moore Myauo (Ting) of Vienna, VA, Brian Alexander Moore (Betsy) of Washington, PA, Aimee Marie (Moore) Giammittorio (David) of Pearland, TX, and Carrie Ann Moore Skaff (Adam) of Prospect, KY. She is also survived by six (soon to be seven) grandchildren: Madilyn, Juliana, Wyatt, Vera, Brooks, and William, who endearingly call her “Mammaw’’ and a brother, Thomas Homono (Anna) of Pawleys Island, SC. Family and friends of Joyce Ann, and her husband, William were received on Thursday, January 18, 2024 and again on Friday, January 19, 2024 until the time of the funeral services, at James Funeral Home, Follansbee. Interment followed for both, Joyce Ann and her husband, William at Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joyce Ann’s name to the Glioblastoma Research Organization.
