RUTH MARIE BROSTMAN, 94, of Weirton, WV, passed Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Brightwood Center. She was born December 22, 1929, in Floral Park, NY, daughter to the late John Leon Gardner and Ruth Allaire Gardner. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, James Lewis Brostman (2015); brothers, Joseph and John Allaire Gardner; and sister Anne Gardner. Ruth was a devout Roman Catholic, member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where she was active with the Christian Mothers and the church choir. In her younger years, Ruth was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Kilian Parish, Farmingdale, NY. She was a Benedictine Oblate with St. Meinrad Archabbey, IN. Ruth earned her Master’s Degree in Music Education from NYU, along with her husband, and was a professional musician. She taught music in the Herricks School District, Long Island, NY, before raising her two children. Ruth was a private flute instructor and performed with symphony orchestras and bands in the Long Island and New York area, most recently, Toronto, Ohio. Ruth loved gardening and being outdoors. Most importantly, Ruth was a devoted wife and mother. She was the kindest woman with a gentle, loving soul. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Ruth E. Maxwell (Joseph L. Maxwell, Jr.); son, John Matthew Brostman; and grandson, Joseph L. Maxwell III (Stephanie Furnish). Visitation took place Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home, Weirton. Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Weirton, with Reverend Tony Thurston presiding. Interment followed at St. Paul Cemetery.
