Twelve County Candidates to be On May Primary Election Ballot

Twelve candidates will be on the primary election ballot in Brooke County as they seek their parties’ nominations.
For judicial offices, the primary will be actual election to the positions that are open.
When filing closed Saturday, Jan. 27, the lineup in Brooke County was:
County commission: Darin Pizer of 1094 Washington Pike, Wellsburg, a Republican and A. J. Thomas of 165 Highland Hills Dr., Follansbee, a Democrat.
Prosecuting attorney: Robert Catlett of 2022 Pleasant Ave., Wellsburg, a Democrat, and Allison Codwen of 132 Parkview, Weirton, a Republican.
Sheriff: Richard Beatty of 200 Church St., Follansbee, a Republican, and Richard Ferguson of 150 Caldwell, Wellsburg, a Democrat.
Assessor: Thomas Oughton of 2248 Charles St., Wellsburg, A Republican.
Conservation District supervisor: Eric Freeland of 2522 Windy Hill Rd., Wellsburg, a Republican.
For two seats on the board of education to be elected to four-year terms during the primary, candidates are Edward Marks of 145 Hiddenwood Acres, Wellsburg, and Antoinette Perkins of 109 May Rd., Follansbee.
For election as magistrates, candidates for four-year terms are Daniell Diserio of Wellsburg and Shannon Price of Wellsburg.
In nonpartisan judicial races to serve the 1st Circuit of Brooke, Hancock and Ohio counties as family court judges, Joyce Dumbaugh Chernenko of Wellsburg has filed in Division 1, and Heather A. Wood of Weirton has filed in Division 2.
Candidates for four circuit judges to serve the same counties are Joseph Barki of Wheeling, Dean Elliott Williams of Triadelphia and Ron Wilson of Weirton, Division 1; David J. Sims of Wheeling in Division 2, Jason A. Cuomo of Follansbee in Division 3 and Michael J. Olejasz in Division 4.
In the race for a seat in the State Senate representing Brooke, Hancock and Ohio counties as well as part of Marshall County, Ryan W. Weld of P. O. Box 123, Wellsburg, and Scott Adams, a Republican of 1457 Grand Ave., Wellsburg, will compete for that nomination.
Brooke County is represented by three members of the House of Delegates.
Filing in District 1, which includes parts of Brooke and Hancock counties, was Pat McGeehan of 616 Florida Ave, Apt. 1, Chester.
Filing in District 2, which also includes parts of Brooke and Hancock counties, were Mark Zatezalo of 540 N. 12th St., Weirton, Michele States of 170 Owings St., Weirton and Olivia Dowler of 205 School St., Weirton.
Filing in District 3, which includes parts of Brooke and Ohio counties were David Cantrell of 710 Stone Shannon Rd., Wheeling, and Jimmy Willis of 2199 West Liberty Rd., Bethany.
Judicial officers and members of the board of education will be elected at the May 14 election, while winners of parties’ nominations for other offices will face each other in the November general election.
