DOROTHY “DOT” LOUISE BEVER, 82, of Weirton, WV, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and partner passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family on January 29, 2024. Born on December 31, 1941 in Steubenville, OH, Dorothy was the daughter of Thomas and Sophia Dobies Runkel. Dorothy was a member of the first graduating class at Madonna High School in 1959 and was the author of the school’s alma mater. Dorothy worked hard throughout her lifetime. She began delivering newspapers at age nine and continued to work through her school-aged years at the local grocery store and Elby’s. She eventually transitioned to switchboard operator at Weirton General Hospital and served as Weirton City Clerk before returning to Weirton Medical Center for a long, prosperous career where she held various titles, including human resources, respiratory secretary, admitting clerk, and eventually retired as a respected payroll specialist. Dorothy’s world was centered around her three children, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She was the best cook and baker and always made plenty to share with her family. Dorothy also loved spending time outdoors in the warm weather tending to her flowers, yard, and garden and helping her family beautify their homes as well. Dorothy was hard-working, fashionable, a master organizer, a skilled mathematician, and the ultimate matriarch of her family. She loved Sunday trips to Trader Jack’s with her late partner, Buddy Crissman, and was always looking for a good bargain. She also enjoyed going to festivals, traveling, dancing, watching sports and movies but above all, she loved and cherished the moments spent with her family. Dorothy’s personality made it easy for her to strike up a conversation with anyone she met and her family treasured the advice and wisdom she shared about life. Her infectious laughter and heart of gold will be eternally cherished by her loved ones and all those who knew her. In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her partner of 26 years, Buddy; her sister, Loretta Keen; and her brother, Ronald Runkel. Remembering her with so much love and admiration, are her children, Sandra Hansen, Thomas (Jara) Bever, and Christine (David) Dalrymple; her grandchildren, Paige (Brandon) Woofter, with whom she shared her birthday with; Madison Dalrymple, Ross (Justina) Hickman, Garrett and Lexington Bever, and Cole and Aiden Hansen; her great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce (Bill) Shreve, and brother, Robert Runkel; amongst several nieces and nephews. It was Dorothy’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home.
