Shirley Ann Misselwitz

SHIRLEY ANN MISSELWITZ, 71, of Aliquippa, PA, formerly of Weirton, WV, passed peacefully Saturday February 3, 2024 at home with her family by her side. She was born May 1, 1952 in Steubenville, OH, daughter of the late Patrick and Charlotte Blakley Kelley. Shirley was a Registered Nurse who first earned an Associate degree in Nursing from West Virginia Northern Community College, then furthered her education with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Liberty State College. She began her nursing career working at Western Psychiatric Institute and the University of Pittsburgh in PA, and the work she did there prompted her to achieve a Master of Science in Nursing degree specializing in mental health from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. She also worked at Hillcrest in Wheeling, WV. For over thirty years Shirley followed her passion to teach. She was a faculty member at Washington Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, PA, West Liberty State College in West Liberty, WV, and Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WV. One student she taught remarked, “Shirley taught me so much more than nursing.” Later in her career, Shirley was inaugural director of the nursing program at New River Community and Technical College in Summersville, WV. Shirley was Christian by faith and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. More than anything, she lived for her daughter and grandsons, whom she loved unconditionally. Shirley was a remarkable woman that lived a full life with many accomplishments. She was a kind, gentle soul with so much strength and determination. She was a wonderful friend and loved by all who knew her. Shirley will be remembered by her loving daughter, Mariah Misselwitz (fiancé Christian Snyder); grandsons, Gabriel and Dominic Snyder; very best friend, Dr. Monica Kennison; caregiver and “second daughter”, Lisa Stone; several cousins and an aunt; and the many students she taught. Visitation was held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home, Weirton, where the funeral will be held Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11 a.m., with Minister Tom Derby presiding. Entombment will follow at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be left at
