DESPINA “DES” MADIAS, 96, of Weirton, WV fell asleep in the Lord at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Des was born on January 6, 1928, in Weirton, the daughter of the late Nicholas J. Pandelios and Antonia (Pantelaras) Pandelios. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Madias, in 1965, and her two brothers, Eustratios N. “Steve” Pandelios; and an infant brother, Constantine Pandelios. Des loved her church and was a long-time active member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Weirton where she sang in the church choir. She also participated in the All Saints Senior Citizens, Daughters of Penelope, Philoptochos Society, Agia Markella Chian Society and the Kardamylian Society. She was also a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 131. Des loved to cook and bake for her family and friends and loved passing down recipes to carry on her family’s traditions. She especially enjoyed cooking, baking, and serving for the church festivals. Des worked in the men’s department at Stone and Thomas until her retirement in 1993. Des is survived by her son Marcus and his wife Grace of Weirton and their son Justin Madias; her son Nicholas and his wife Dottie Madias of Yeadon, PA, their daughter Karmen Fails and her sons Sebastian and Julian Raaf of Yeadon, PA. Visitation was held Tuesday, February 13, 2024 until the time of the funeral liturgy, at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Weirton. Interment followed in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens All Saints Greek Orthodox Section, Weirton.
