Marlene E. Sayers

MARLENE E. SAYERS, 88, of Wellsburg, WV passed away March 13, 2024, at home. She was born August 13, 1935, in Wallace, WV to the late Rex Fleming Bates and Agnes Wilda White Swiger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Sayers, a son, Jeff Bates, a brother, Jackson Swiger, and a sister, Janice Blunt. Marlene was an amazing and loving mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone that she met. She never met a stranger and was loving and welcome to everyone she ever came into contact with. Marlene worked at Brook County Courthouse and Brooke Hills Park for many years and made a lot of lifelong friends. She was the matriarch of our family and will be missed dearly. She is survived by her companion, Dale Dixon; two sons, Rex (Sandi) Bates and Marvin “Bouk” (Dee) Bates, all of Toronto, OH; two daughters, Jeanne (Kevin) Yanda of Follansbee, WV and Melanie (Lee) Cecchini of Wellsburg, WV; two sisters, Diana Hutson of Wallace, WV amd Susan Cain of Smithfield, WV; a sister-in-law, Barb Swiger of Beech Bottom, WV; fifteen grandchildren: Kristy Jones (Gary Krol), Renee (Duane) Whear, Nicole Fillinger (Jon McFarland), Bethany (Stephen) Elgin, Jennifer (Michael) Wilson, Jessica (Daniel) Bates, Rex Bates, Jr., Michaela (Elliott) Bates, Keena (James) Chambers, Marvin (Jenna) Bates III, Nicholas Bates, Michael (Robyn) Bates, Victoria Bates, Ashley (Ryan) Sperlazza and Anthony (Heidi) Cecchini; twenty nine great grandchildren: Michael, Jack, Rocco, Parker, Ryder, Maverick, Walker, Logan, Alivia, Shaylee, McKinlee, Addison, Bates, Adelyn, Alena, Farrah, Lillianna, Katelyn, Sawyer, Henry, Eva, Lewie, Nylah, Kington, Keegan, Santino, Amelia, Chase and Baker; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation took place on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Reasner Funeral Home, Wellsburg. Words of remembrance by Rex Bates took place on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the funeral home. Interment followed at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice for all the love and care Marlene received.
