Lawrence “Larry” E. Kemp

LAWRENCE “LARRY” E. KEMP, 93, of Colliers, WV, passed Monday, March 18, 2024 at Ann’s Country Retreat, Assisted Living, Wellsburg. He was born August 7, 1930 in Hollidays Cove, WV, son of the late William E. and Olive N. Newland Kemp. He is also preceded in death by brothers, Billy Kemp, John Kemp, and Glenn Kemp; and sisters, Norma Lee Fabian, and Margaret Whipkey. Larry was a member of Colliers Way Church of Christ where he loved singing in the choir. Larry was a US Army Veteran who served during the Korean War. He later worked and retired from Weirton Steel and National Steel as a welder mechanic. Larry loved woodworking, hunting, fishing, golfing, mowing grass, bike riding, singing, stargazing, and building model airplanes. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Winnie Smith Kemp; daughter, Jeannie Aria (Sam) of Colliers, WV; son, Eric Kemp (Tina) of Clinton, PA; grandchildren, Sammy Aria (Staci), Brittany Kable (Benjamin), Taylor Kemp, Allison Kemp, and E.J. Kemp; great grandchildren, James Mason, Jaima Howell, Myah Howell, and Brayden Kable; and sister, Fay Lynn Kemp. Visitation was held Saturday, March 23, 2024 until the time of the service at Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home, Weirton, with Evangelist Tom Derby presiding. Interment followed at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, where military honors were rendered by US Army and American Legion Post No. 10 Honor Guards.
