SUSAN CAROL CHURCHMAN, 76, of Wellsburg, WV went home to Jesus on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Weirton Medical Center with her friends by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Dwight “Jake” Churchman and Elizabeth “Betty” Serdula Churchman, a twin brother William Carl Churchman, and four loving dogs. She was a lifelong member of the Wellsburg Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and Deacon. She was a member of the choir, bell choir, and various committees. She was a strong woman of faith. She was a retired fifth-grade teacher of 35 years at Wellsburg Middle School in Brooke County where her love of teaching left a lasting memory upon her students. She was Brooke County Teacher of the Year in 1990, Member of Brooke County Wall of Fame in 2012. She graduated from Wellsburg High School, earned her BA in Education from West Liberty State College and her MA from WVU. She was a member of many civic groups including: Alpha Delta Kappa, Wellsburg Civic League, Wellsburg Kiwanis, P.E.O. Chapter N, AARP chapter 3910, Wellsburg High School Alumni, a former member of the Brooke County Libraries Board, Red Hat Society and Pinochle Card Club, and also a board member for Brooke County Special Olympics. She is survived by various cousins and many dear friends. She was a wonderful and loving friend and colleague. Visitation was held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, until the time of the service at the Wellsburg First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Mary Jane Knapp officiating. Inurnment was held privately. The family would like to give special appreciation to Tami McQuiston and the staff at Woodland Hills assisted living and the staff at Weirton Medical Center for their extraordinary care for Carol.
