Robert Ernest (Bob) Smith

ROBERT ERNEST (BOB) SMITH, of Trinity, FL, and Parkersburg, WV, passed away April 6, 2024 at Marietta (OH) Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 21, 1944 in Alliance, Ohio, to the late Louis and Areline (Kabisch) Smith. He graduated from Follansbee High School with the Class of 1962. He also graduated from West Virginia Tech in 1966 with a degree in chemical engineering. He retired from General Electric, working in multiple locations, after 28 years of service. He was responsible for construction and start-up of a world-class plastics facility in Burkville, AL. He also worked for Allied Signal in Chesterfield, VA, for five years. He attended North Parkersburg Baptist Church and The Chapel Church in Trinity, FL. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated “Chicago Bears” fan and enjoyed watching all sports. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Mary Skinner Smith of Trinity, FL, and Parkersburg, WV; daughter, Leslie Ann Veatch and her husband Ala) of Baytown, TX; son, Douglas Fairfield Smith and his wife Liana of Kingsport, TN; brother, Dan Smith and his wife Judy of Colliers; sister, Madeline McGowan and her husband Chuck of New Port Richey, FL; brother, Jeff Smith and his wife Suzanne of Newburgh, IN; step-daughters, Denise Nelson and her husband Jay and Michelle Clegg and her husband Paul, both of Parkersburg; grandchildren Amanda Deason and her husband Martin, Nicole Collins and her husband Aaron, Bailey Thomason and her husband Jason, Logan Clegg and his wife Alexa and Whitney Nelson; great-grandchildren, Liv, Joseph, Laklie, Lilly, Isabelle and Grayson; step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Cyerra, Reid, Brock, Jenna; several nieces and nephews; and his loving companion, “Bear.” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents. Funeral services were Thursday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Mark Eaton officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
