Eleanor Jean Cline

ELEANOR JEAN CLINE, 93, of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully in the morning of April 11, 2024, at the Wyngate Senior Living Community, Weirton. Born on July 14, 1930, in French Creek, WV, Eleanor was a daughter and one of six children born to late Donald and Blanch Neely Lipscomb. A graduate of Buckhannon High School, Eleanor’s journey led her to the love of her life, Wayne F. Cline, of Weirton, WV. Together, they established their home on the Cline Family Farm in Weirton, WV, nurturing a family enriched with love and laughter. Their marriage was blessed with four children, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. While Wayne, a Navy veteran of World War II, worked as a pipefitter at Weirton Steel, Eleanor devoted herself to their home and family. She had a passion for gardening, adorning their home with beautiful flowers and instilling in her family the value of nature’s beauty. Eleanor’s kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome, where aromas of baking and cooking filled the air, drawing family and friends to gather and share in the joy of a meal made with love. Her recipes, passed down and perfected through the years, remain a cherished legacy, a tangible connection to the moments shared around her table. Eleanor’s life was marked by service and community involvement. As a devout member of the Cove Presbyterian Church, she led with grace and dedication, serving as President of the Myrtle McHendry Class and Superintendent of the Sunday School. Her leadership extended to the Church Women United of Weirton, where she served as President. Eleanor’s commitment to nurturing young minds and spirits was evident in her roles as a Cub Scout Leader, 4-H leader, and Den Mother, touching the lives of many in our community. But perhaps Eleanor’s most treasured pastime was the creation of handmade greeting cards. These cards were not mere paper and ink; they were extensions of her love, sent to celebrate, comfort, and connect with her loved ones, near and far. Her life was not without loss, as she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne, on March 17, 2004, and her sons, Doug on April 26, 1993, and Michael on April 18, 2011. Eleanor also bid farewell to her siblings Howard, Harold, and David Lipscomb, and her sister, Donnis Young, before her passing. Eleanor Jean Cline’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and service. Her warmth, guidance, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. As we say goodbye, we also celebrate a life well-lived, a family well-loved, and a community forever enriched by her presence. Eleanor will be remembered with love by her son, David and Terri Cline of Weirton; her daughter, Joyce and Gary Hagerty of Friendly, WV; her daughters in law, Linda Cline of Follansbee, WV and Debbie Cline of Snowshoe, WV; her sister, Doris and Jerry Greene of Buckhannon, WV; her grandchildren, Benjamin Hagerty (Jenny), Brittany Vass (Daniel), Kayla Violet (Eric), Brenna Myer (Jake), Brandon Cline, Preston Cline, Staci Breen (Pat), Molly Dobbins (J.B.), Morgan Long, (Jesse), and Sarah Mason (Phil); 12 great grandchildren, and special family friends, Larry and Sharon Droppleman. Visitation was held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Additional visitation was held on Monday, April 15, 2024 until the time of services at the Cove Presbyterian Church, Weirton, with Roger A. Criss presiding. She was laid to rest next to her husband at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton. The family kindly requests donations be made to the Cove Presbyterian Church, 3404 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
