WILLIAM CLYDE “BILL” STEPHENS, 80, of Weirton, WV a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 24, 1943, to David and Janie Simmons Stephens, Bill was the youngest of three boys. His early years set the stage for a life full of dedication, love, and service. Bill’s journey through life was marked by his enduring love story with Cheryl Schlotter, his high school sweetheart. After graduating from Follansbee High School in 1962, they married on August 23, 1963, a partnership that flourished over six decades. They were blessed with two children and four grandchildren. Theirs was a home filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support. In 1964, Bill began his career at Weirton Steel, where his hard work and dedication saw him retire as a machinist in 2000. Retirement did not slow him down; he continued to serve his community as the head of maintenance and courier service at the Village Pharmacy. His work ethic was unparalleled, but it was his generosity and selflessness that truly defined him. Bill’s commitment to helping others was evident in his active involvement with the AF & AM Masonic Lodge 171, Osiris Shrine, and the Northern Panhandle Shrine Club. He took particular pride in transporting children to the Shriner’s Hospital in Erie, PA, a testament to his compassionate spirit and desire to make a difference in the lives of others. A man of simple pleasures, Bill loved tending to his yard aboard his tractor, a hobby that brought him immense joy. More than anything, he cherished the moments spent with his family. He was a constant presence at his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, a testament to his unwavering support and love for his family. Bill was a beacon of kindness in his community, always ready to lend a hand to a neighbor in need. His legacy is one of selfless service, love, and dedication to his family and community. As we say goodbye to Bill, we celebrate a life well-lived and the countless lives he touched.
