Doris Elrita (Davis) Hornick

DORIS ELRITA (DAVIS) HORNICK, 95, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at the Wellsburg Healthcare Center. Doris was born on March 19, 1929 in Brilliant, OH. She was the daughter of the late Myron “Bobby” Davis and Grace (Rager) Davis. Doris was a 1947 graduate of Wellsburg High School. She was a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church serving with the Altar Rosary Society, Pastoral Council, Volunteer Coordinator and Office Aide for the St. John Parish School in addition to her volunteer work with the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, George Hornick; two sons, Larry and Richard Hornick; six grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Davis. Doris is survived by her five children: Bruce Hornick, Michael Hornick and his wife, Jenny, Diana DiProsperis and her husband, Ronald, Patti Smith and her husband, James and Elrita McAvoy; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; three nephews; and a niece. Family and friends were received on Friday, April 19, 2024, with a Vigil Service following at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, where the funeral commenced on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Mass of Christian Burial was also celebrated on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Wellsburg, with Father Justin Golna presiding.
