Eleanore S. Peterson

ELEANORE S. PETERSON, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2024, surrounded by her family and the compassionate staff at Grace Cottage. She was born on December 2, 1927, in Weirton, one of four children to Zygmunt and Sophie Krukowski Komorowski. Eleanore’s early years were shaped by her education at Sacred Heart grade school, followed by her graduation from Catholic Central High School. She remained deeply devoted to her faith, finding solace and community at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. She actively participated in the church’s Rosary Society and Christian Mother’s groups, embodying the principles of compassion and service. An active member of the Weirton Senior Center, Eleanore cherished the camaraderie of fellow seniors and the opportunities for social engagement. Family and faith were the pillars of her life, and she was a proud member of the three-score senior club, celebrating the richness of her years with gratitude and joy. Eleanore’s marriage to her beloved husband, John, on July 28, 1947, marked the beginning of a lifetime of love and partnership. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love for their six children. Eleanore found fulfillment in her role as a homemaker, taking pride in caring for her family and creating a nurturing environment for all who entered her home. In addition to her parents, Eleanore was preceded in death by her devoted husband John on September 17, 2015, brothers John and Chester Komorowski, and sister Laura Maxian. Cherishing her memory affectionately are her children, Monsignor Joseph Peterson of Weirton, John (Rhinda) Peterson of Charlotte, NC., Charles Peterson of Kettering, OH., Richard Peterson of Euclid, OH., Marianne Peterson (Les) Widmyer of Ashland, VA., and Christine (Jack) Nesbitt of Toronto, OH., thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Eleanore leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and love. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Friends were invited to visit with Eleanore’s family on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, where a vigil service will also held Wednesday. Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, Weirton, with Monsignor Joseph Peterson presiding. Interment followed immediately in New Cumberland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church and Saint Jude Research Hospital at stjude.org.
