LAWRENCE CHARLES STROUD, SR., 71, of Burgettstown, PA, passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2024. Born in Follansbee, WV, on December 12, 1952, he was a son of the late Donald M. and Edna S. Yarosz Stroud. He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother to his family and a proud US Marine veteran, having served during the Vietnam War from 1971 to 1973. His dedication to service continued as a US Army Reservist from 1981 to 2012. Lawrence devoted his life to hard work, spending his 33-year career as a skilled crane operator at WSX. An avid outdoorsman, Lawrence found joy in fishing, hunting, and trapping. He was a beloved member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and his community and an active participant in organizations such as the American Legion Post 10, Paris Sportsman Club, and the WSX 25-Year Club. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Ann, his sons Lawrence Jr. (Jennifer) and Joseph (Lindsey), grandchildren Austin, Jackson, Carson, Miley, and Jacob, along with his mother Edna, siblings Richard, Sam, Patty, and Debby, brother-in-law Butch, sister-in-law Cheryl, sister-in-law Glenda Stroud, and many other extended family members and friends. In addition to his father, Lawrence was preceded in death by his brothers Ted and Eric and Donald. A true patriot and family man, Lawrence’s legacy of service, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His family received friends at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton on Sunday, June 30, 2024. Funeral services to honor his life were held at the funeral home on Monday, July 1, 2024, followed by a military ceremony by the American Legion Post 10 and the United States Marines to commemorate his service to his country. Lawrence was entombed at the Washington Cemetery, Washington, PA. Lawrence’s memory will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to know him, and his legacy will forever shine bright in the hearts of those he touched.
