Riding on the coattails of AI and futuristic shows is the topic of beings from other planets or even other dimensions. Do you believe it is possible for there to be life on other planets? This is an age old question. I personally have never seen or encountered an unearthly alien or UFO. What are your thoughts on the subject of “We are not alone in this galaxy.”
I do remember being a kid and riding in the back of the vehicle and looking out the window of things going by. And I always honed in on a particular sign that was in a yard on route 844 towards Washington PA always on my left. I looked for it and studied it as I rode past it. The large white coated plywood was painted with a big green face like a rounded up-side-down tear drop that had huge black eyes and tiny dash for a mouth and skipped a nose completely with a withered narrow gangly body below. And at the bottom of the plywood was one word, “B E L I E V E”. I always wondered what those people knew about aliens. I never got the chance to talk to them. Although I felt like I wanted to. But I was just a kid. And why was it so important to them to bring it to everyone else’s attention? They wanted us all to know they exist and believe as they believe. What did they know or experience? Or was it just a big joke to be the oddball and ridiculous one to make fun of the whole notion? Perhaps they were just egging on the contrived imbeciles to further their sickness in the notion? It will forever be a mystery.
We have had many a movie in the theatre endearing us to the idea of making friends with extra-terrestrials, including the story of E.T. the cute big-eyed loving curious homesick little benevolent being that just wanted to go home. A relatable story where love binds the ties to home and family. So many movies, Star Wars, Close Encounter of the Third Kind, Mission to Mars, Star Trek, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Alien, Independence Day(This week)…..on and on. We just can’t seem to get enough of a good alien movie drama. Why are we so drawn to it? Do we want to believe in them? Is the excitement of the mysterious unknown irresistible?
Then we have the History Channel, that we watch because we want to educate ourselves with history; the show Ancient Aliens and the story lines of how they helped ancient civilizations to build things and invent things. And the story of how they were here long before we existed. The story of Atlantis and Lemuria…….have you heard of these places? Do you believe they were real places on the ancient earth? How does all this fit in Biblically? The Bible does mention GIANTS and fallen angels. Are they aliens or demons? Or both? These are just some things to ponder on your Friday afternoon. Haha…pull up a chair…. Let’s discuss. The topic is being put more and more in front of our faces. It is good to evaluate and explore your personal beliefs rather than being an ostrich who tucks its head in the sand. Getting blind-sided is no fun.
We have been exposed to so, so much on the internet. What does it all mean? They must be real if so many people are talking about it. Right? I mean now days if you don’t believe in them you’re looked at as the oddball. Where as 50, 60 years ago if you believed in THEM you were a complete crazy person. The scripts have flipped. Technology through the media and internet make photos, videos and information instantly accessible. All we have to do is type in a few key words and voila! It’s quite overwhelming and forcing us to believe in them.
On October 15, 2015 Pope Francis was asked the question of whether or not aliens exist. He neither confirmed or denied but replied, “Honestly, I wouldn’t know how to answer,” explaining that while scientific knowledge has until now excluded the possibility of other thinking beings in the universe, he said, “until America was discovered, we thought it didn’t exist, and instead it existed. But in every case I think that we should stick to what the scientists tell us, still aware that the Creator is infinitely greater than our knowledge.” To me it seems as though he is leaning towards believing in them and that God knows more than we do regardless of what science reveals to us through our human capacities.
Next week we will talk further on that and this alien theory. Maybe you have an abduction story you would like to share. Do you or someone you know have a story dealing with aliens? Could these things be real? Send in your notions and comments to [email protected]. I will include them in the next available column as per their arrival relative to the publication deadline of Tuesday by 12 p.m. of the same week. If you wish to be anonymous let me know. Kindness is contagious~*
