VIRGINIA ANN GUZZETTA, 93, of Weirton passed away peacefully in her home on July 12, 2024. A coal miners’ daughter born to Croatian immigrants, Virginia leaves a legacy of generosity, love, kindness, and selflessness. Born on May 19, 1931, in the family home in Windsor Heights, WV, Virginia was the fifth of six children born to Luka and Molly Horvat Tominack. A bright student and talented basketball player, Virginia graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1949 as a straight-A student. Her passion for nursing led her to the Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1953. Virginia’s journey in healthcare began humbly, mopping floors and working as a nurse’s aide during her teenage years. Her dedication and hard work paid off as she became a Registered Nurse (RN), initially working in Baltimore, MD for three years before returning to West Virginia. In 1957, Virginia married Dominic “Babe” Guzzetta, and together they built a loving family of three daughters, nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. In Weirton, Virginia found her true calling at Weirton General Hospital, and Weirton Medical Center, where she dedicated over 35 years of service in the operating room. Known for her extreme generosity, Virginia always prioritized the needs of others, often having less so others could have more. A natural caregiver, she opened her home and heart, caring for her mother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and husband in their times of need. Her generosity was always accompanied by a smile, making her a joy to be around and a comfort to those who knew her. Virginia was a devout parishioner of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Christian Mothers. Her deep concern for the eternal souls of her family members was a testament to her unwavering faith. Additionally, she was a proud member of the American Association of Operating Room Nurses, exemplifying her commitment to the nursing profession. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic on December 24, 2013, her brothers, Ivan, Joe, and Sonny Tominack; and her sisters, Frances Rodocker and Helen Tominack. She will be remembered with love and admiration by her three daughters, Marisa (Brian) Shreve, Monette Myers, and Mary Beth (Tricia) Guzzetta; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Jesse, Nicholas, Boomer, and Levi Shreve, Maggie (Chris) Virtue, Luke (Janna) Myers, Jacob (Angela) Myers and Stephanie (Michael) DiCarlantonio; her twenty great-grandchildren; and former son in law, Rick (Dee) Myers. Her visitation was held Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the Greco–Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, with Fr. Binu Sebastian presiding. Entombment followed at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
