BERNARD ARTHUR “BERNIE” SANDERS, 86, of Colliers, WV died peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024, with his family by his side at Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH. He was born on October 29, 1937, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Francis and Bertha (Fasching) Sanders. In addition to his parents Bernard is preceded in death by one sister, Marion Stadelman; and two brothers, Robert and Francis Sanders. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later worked for IBM as an engineer which he loved and considered himself a workaholic. Bernard was a member of the Colliers United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men Group and choir and the Brooke County Senior Volunteer Program. Bernard enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren out to explore nature and loved spending time on his computer at home and playing with puzzles. Throughout the years he enjoyed taking trips with his wife Nancy across the US and gathering with his family to spend time. He was also an avid Steeler fan and never missed watching a game. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Nancy (Winger) Sanders at home; two children, Linda (Michael) Eichner of Follansbee, WV and Ronald (Bethann) Sanders of Weirton, WV; three grandchildren: Jonathan (Taylor) Eichner, Allison Eichner, and Ashley Sanders; one great grandson, Theo; one brother, Martin Sanders of TX; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation for Bernard was held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 and again on Thursday, July 25, 2024 until the time of the funeral service, with Pastor Jim Rahr officiating at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee. Interment followed at St. John Haven of Rest Cemetery, Colliers. Full military honors were conducted by the US Navy and Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Colliers United Methodist Church, 318 Pennsylvania Ave., Colliers, WV 26035 in memory of Bernard.
