ETHEL MAE BIRD, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Weirton Medical Center. Born in Kittanning, PA, on January 20, 1943, to Duncan and Sarah Hileman Graham, Ethel lived a life full of love, laughter, and compassion. Ethel graduated from Follansbee High School in 1960 and worked for many years as a data processor at Weirton Steel’s General Office. She later served as a clerk at Dano’s, earning the admiration and respect of colleagues and customers. Known for her wicked sense of humor and vibrant personality, Ethel could light up any room with her sparkling blue eyes and infectious laugh. She was a kind and caring individual who never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone, earning her the reputation of being a genuinely warm and generous person. Ethel was an avid shopper and loved to travel, particularly enjoying trips with family and to the beach. In recent years, she found solace and community in attending the Lutheran Church. Above all, Ethel adored her family and cherished every moment spent with them. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Richard A. Bird, who sadly passed on March 9, 2003. Mourning her loss and remembering her fondly are her daughter Jo Lynn Bird (Michael) Scotch of Alexandria, VA., grandson Alex (Christina) Scotch, great-granddaughter Lola Scotch, sisters Linda (Dr. Thomas) Canfield of Colorado, Mary (James) Salser of Ravenswood, WV., special sisters Donna Bird, Glenna Dibacco and Bonnie Truax and many nieces and nephews. Ethel’s family received friends on Friday, July 26, 2024 at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Ethel’s request for cremation has been honored.
